UNK architects won the international competition for the design of Quarters 7 and 8 in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Experts from Russia, the Netherlands, and Japan collaborated on the city's development concepts. The project assumes medium-rise buildings to preserve the view of Bolshevik Mountain. The low density of residential buildings will also allow the unimpeded penetration of sunlight into the windows of new buildings. The issue of arranging courtyard areas harmoniously is a special emphasis. Besides, it has been suggested that the schools and kindergartens in the micro districts should have more seats. In this case, the buildings of institutions need to be reconstructed. The purpose of all work is to upgrade the regional center's housing stock and create a comfortable urban environment while taking current requirements and architectural trends into account. The Architecture and Urban Planning Committee of Moscow, as well as Chief Architect of the Capital Sergey Kuznetsov, gave practical and advising support to the Administration of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in this matter.
